I “Decked the Offices” with VAnetworking in 2007. This was the ultimate virtual party with holiday music in the background when we entered the room. Greetings were from Santa Tawnya and Elf Patty who certainly brought along several very large bags of gifts to distribute throughout the evening. As we mingled in the room, we discovered that everyone brought along their favorite beverage, snacks, and commented on the festive outfits everyone was wearing or the comfy slippers that adorned our feet. One of the games we played later in the evening quizzed us about how well we were listening as the party guests introduced themselves, said what snacks they were enjoying, and if they were dressed in holiday attire. I won the game and recalled the most details about the guests in attendance. It was a treat to get-together, have a lot of laughs, get some great prizes, and not worry about late night travel to get home after the party. Count me in for the next party!

This was actually my first "event" with VAnetworking. I had been lurking about and posting a little here and there since November, but it was the holiday party that actually "introduced" me to a lot of VAs that I now call friends.
Picture this....a couple of weeks before Christmas, a middle aged woman sits - unemployed with no prospects in sight. By rights, I should have been feeling upset, worried and depressed. But was I? Nooooo. I was having a blast at the VAnetworking Holiday Party 2007 and getting more and more excited about starting my own business. Because of that party (and VAnetworking), I had faith that I had a support system in place in case I stumbled.
I had so much fun checking out all the "presents" everyone brought. I won a free VA Insider membership at that party, which gave me the resources I needed to help ensure success with my business. At the time I remember thinking - wow, now I can respond to RFP's! But it was so much more than that, and I didn't realize the resources Tawnya had accumulated to help other VAs reach a high level of success until I actually became an Insider! That was definitely the jump start I needed and carried me through a Christmas that would probably have been one of the worst.
The only thing that would have made the party better for me was if I had a headset and mic at the time. I never leave home without one now... It is so much more fun when you can actively participate in the banter without having to type everything. With a mic, you really feel like you are at a party and chatting with friends. I can't wait....
