Hi Tawnya!

Excellent article. One thing that came to mind as I was reading your comments about hiring off shore VAs or VAs that charge super low rates. There is a big difference in hiring someone to work a to-do or task list versus partnering with someone who can help you run your business.

Partnering with a VA is all about adding value to your business. A VA is someone who can partner with your business and offer business solutions to help business owners increase revenues.

Defining the expectation of hiring a VA is the first step. Hiring an off-shore company to provide a service can be a solution to a business challenge, however, it is necessary to truly evaluate the need and find the best solution long term.

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your comments. Just to clarify, these answers are provided by Sharon as part of the blog hopping tour to promote the upcoming Online International Virtual Assistants Convention (OIVAC - (http://www.oivac.com) and the industry. Response to question #2 is actually from the Core Competencies of a VA, which can be found at the Alliance for Virtual Businesses web site. To learn more about industry-wide accepted core competencies of a VA, stop by http://www.allianceforvirtualbiz.com.

Tawnya, great questions and answers. I especially liked your answer to question #2 concerning the 3 qualities to look for when partnering with a VA. These are qualities we all should have but your answers made me reexamine my own qualities to be sure I measure up.

Tawnya,
I really stopped to read your point about Twitter, because I wholeheartedly agree. It's terrific to network, but I see prospects say 'I need a VA' and a VA responds 'I'm a VA, I can help'. From that request, I wouldn't be sure if I could help! I direct everyone I can to the VAnetworking RFP page so that they can find a VA that fits their needs. Great point. I'm so glad you made it!
