PHEW! It’s been a crazy and busy week! AND, I’m now off to travel to Memphis, Tennessee and attend IVAA Summit, a Virtual Assistant Conference. I’m super excited to connect with ‘ole’ VA friends and meet some new ones. (Keep tabs on the VA excitement brewing in Twitter with #IVAA12).

This business trip reminded me of a time a few years ago when I attended my first VA Conference and the reasons why I attended same. I recorded a whole VA Talk Show on my experience. Are you truly happy in your life and work? While the ability to achieve happiness and fulfillment may seem elusive at best, the truth is it is actually quite possible to find both.Here are 5 tips to achieve happiness and fulfillment in your life and work.Tip #1 – Know what you want, and write it down What do you truly want? Visualize yourself feeling happy and fulfilled. What do you see? Are you sitting on a beach? Is your debt gone? Are you painting? Running? Playing with your children? Write down what will make you feel happy and fulfilled – consider it your life vision statement. Post it in a place where you have access to it and can refer back to it often. I have mine posted on the wall behind my computer monitor which I look at every day.

Now, from this vision statement, create small steps to make your vision a reality. For example, if you find fulfillment from being with your friends, then what can you do to make that a reality? Why not drop a phonecall today to that friend you’ve not heard from in awhile.

Tip #2 – Be grateful for what you have

Gratitude is a powerful emotion. It reminds you of how important the small things really are. Each breath, ray of sunshine, plate of food and roof over our head is something to be grateful for. Make a practice of writing down what you’re grateful for each day. A nice practice is to wake in the morning and think about what you have to look forward to and end the day thinking about or journaling what you are grateful for.

Tip #3 – Help others

I’m not saying you have to donate your life savings or volunteer 40 hours a week, what I am saying is that small acts of kindness boost your mood incredibly. And they have the effect of improving the lives of others. Small things, like holding a door for someone in need, saying “thank you” and “have a nice day” when you’re talking to strangers and helping to pay for someone’s coffee when they’re short changed, brings happiness to everyone around you.

Tip #4 – Understand that you have the power

You’re ultimately responsible for everything you think and do. While that may seem depressing at first, when you consider the unfortunate decisions you’ve made (and we’ve all made decisions we wished we could take back) the truth is that this is an amazing power. You can choose to learn from mistakes, take advantage of opportunities, look on the bright side and control your life.

Tip #5 – What is your purpose in life?

Is your purpose to help others, to learn, to lead, to unite? We all have a direction we want to take our lives in. Finding your purpose may not be easy. However, it can be a fun process in and of itself. For example, if you love learning new things then your ultimate purpose in life might be to learn. Regardless of what your work and lifestyle are, you can make time to embrace your purpose. Read books, take online courses,, enroll in college courses, participate in community education to help you with your VA business!

You deserve to feel happy and fulfilled, whatever that means to you. Take the time to celebrate who you are and all that you have in your life. Understand what makes you ultimately feel happy and fulfilled and create strategies to make it happen.

I see the new iPad just came out and I would love to hear feedback from anyone who gets one. I love my iPad2 and iPhone4 but surprisingly don’t own a MAC yet (maybe my next techie investment?)

Here’s a sweet trick for users of the iPhone2 that I just learned today from a friend who isn’t even a geek, go figure! I love learning new things so here is a kewl iPhone tip if you want to send emoticons easily in your text messages.

First you’ll have to upgrade to iOS 5.1 with your iPhone. Once you do that then do the following:

1. Go to Settings icon > General > Keyboard

2. Scroll down and click on International Keyboards and then choose “Add New Keyboard”

3. Look for “Emoji” in the list and add it.

Thats it! Now go and text message someone and you’ll now see a small globe icon beside the number 123 icon on your text keyboard. When you click on this it gives you all kinds of emoticons you can use in your text messages from happy faces to balloons. Cool feature huh?

Only downfall is that the emoticons will only show up if the person you are texting also has an iPhone. So how do you know if the other person has an iPhone? Easy peasey…if your text message is in a blue bubble when you send it out, then the recipient is using an iPhone. If your text message is in a green bubble then they are probably on a Blackberry or some other type of cell phone and not a member of the iPhone tribe. Too bad so sad for them ;)

I was talking my business accountability partner this week about article writing and whether or not it gives our business results anymore? And, our obvious traffic volumes from our own articles clearly shows that YES, article marketing is a valuable marketing strategy all should be strategically utilizing!
Writing articles can sometimes be a real struggle. Not to mention, trying to write articles that get results.Here are a few tips to help you through the struggle while also boosting your writing confidence, website traffic and bottom line.

#1 Ask a question. The easiest, and also most valuable and therefore popular, type of content to write is a “how to” article. However, how to articles can get quite complicated. For example, if you’re trying to write an article on how to market your website or getting into the social media realm, that could easily be a book and narrowing it down to 500-ish words can be tricky.

So here’s the key, ask a question. Brainstorm one question or a series of questions people might ask on your topic. If, for example, you’re in the marketing industry then one question might be, “How do I get into Google?” Or “How does one optimize their blog post for high rankings?” Once you have your question, and quite likely your headline, then all you have to do is answer it with at least three points.

Voila! Add a nice introduction and a conclusion and you have a useful article that was easy to write. In fact, once you become accustomed to this process, and if you really know your industry, you can write an article that gets results in about ten minutes.

#2 Reference a current headline, controversy or trend in the industry. This is a great way to capitalize on a popular topic and thus drive traffic to your website. Additionally, it enables you to give your two cents on the topic. When you reference content written by an expert in your industry, it adds credibility to you and your business because it demonstrates that you’re on top of the trends in your industry.

#3 Answer a question you commonly receive from customers, prospects, associates, friends and family. This is an easy one because you know if you’ve been asked it before, perhaps several times, then the question is on the minds of others. Start your article by restating the question and then answer it. It’s often very easy to write these articles because you’ve already answered the question at least once. If you write conversationally, the words will flow quickly onto the page. This type of article gets results as well because it helps people find answers and information to questions they have.

#4 Lists. Finally, it must be said. Everyone loves lists. They’re particularly useful online when our attention span is perhaps a bit shorter than normal and we can quickly and easily scan the article for the useful information. Lists are also saved, printed, emailed and referenced so they’re great for generating repeat traffic. What kind of lists should you make? You can make a list of mistakes to avoid, products to try, websites to visit and so on. The opportunity for list making is virtually endless and they’re super easy to write.

Writing an article that gets results can be quick and easy. The next time you’re in a crunch, try the answer a question approach or the list. You’ll be surprised how easy they are to write and how much your website visitors appreciate them.
