Hi Fellow VAs,
I've been reading the posts on the above-mentioned topic; however, they are no recent posts on this topic. My question is what is standard subcontracting rate in 2012; for example, 80/20, 70/30, etc.? Thanks.

My usual is 2/3 of what the subcontracting VA is getting. For example, the VA that would want me to subcontract charges $50/hour, I would make $33/hour from that. At a minimum. Some VAs that subcontract pay their subcontractors more than the 2/3-1/3 split. Some pay less.
Just talk to them, but set yourself a minimum that you're willing to take.

Negotiate to whatever you feel you are worth. I don't think there is any ratio set in stone as every VA has a set limit of how low they will go on their subcontractor rates which all depends at the time on their availability, need for work, etc. Try to get the most you can.

I have several subcontractors. It really does depend on experience level, etc etc. I cannot tell them what to charge me, but I can accept or not their rate. Most charge 50% to 65% of my rate to the client. I have all of the exposure and if they decide to run away, I get left holding the ball. I do all of the work to get and maintain the client. I actually do pay them all more than 50% at present time because they have direct contact with the clients. It really just depends on a lot of factors...
Note: I also feel very strongly that you should pay your team members timely. Whether you get paid or not is irrelevant. Mine are paid by a certain day of the month. Period.
