Promoting Your Website - 37 ways

Recommended Posts

This list of 37 ways to promote your website seems very thorough, what would you add? (if anything?)

The Web Marketing Checklist: 37 Ways to Promote Your Website

How can you get more visitors to your website? What can you do to stimulate traffic? Here’s a checklist of 37 items you need to consider. Many of these may be doing already; others you meant to do and forgot about; still others you’ve never heard of. Of course, a great deal has been written about this. Thanks for the article however, the writer lost me after the first one. I have no idea what by keyword-rich or meta file.

I know what these mean, but I can't explain it well, but I will try.

Keyword-rich - Words you are focusing on that your clients search Google for i.e. WordPress help, Virtual Assistant, etc.

in the article she/he points out:

<HEAD></HEAD> tags, in this format: <TITLE>Web Marketing Checklist — 37 Ways to Promote Your Website</TITLE>. (It also shows on the blue bar at the top of your web browser.)

Are you on a WordPress self-hosted site? You can add the plugin by Yoast (SEO and Analytics) https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/

Using the plugin makes it so you don't have to mess with the code PLUS it helps with all the good things for Social Media.

Original Article said:

The description should be a sentence or two describing the content of the webpage, using the main keywords and key phrases on this page. Don’t include keywords that don’t appear on the webpage. Place the Description META Tag at the top of the webpage, between the <HEAD></HEAD> tags, in this format:

<META NAME=”DESCRIPTION” CONTENT=”Increase visitor hits, attract traffic through submitting URLs, META tags, news releases, banner ads, and reciprocal links.”>

The maximum number of characters should be about 255; just be aware that only the first 60 or so are visible on Google, though more may be indexed.

I'm not sure, but I think the Yoast plugin will take care of this as well. I use Genesis framework (theme) which has a place where I can put this description. Also, Yoast will add a few boxes at the end of each page and post and all you have to do is add your Keyword and the description. It even gives you a preview of what it looks like in Google Search.

I know this is probably still overwhelming - it was to me when I first started. Little by little it will become clear. If all else fails, hire a V.A. to take care of it for you. LOL :)

I use the All in One SEO plugin for my sites. It is a little bit easier to navigate and such I find for those just starting out. I haven't dived into both of the plugins to see just how much is different between the two of them because I like the one I use and it looked pretty similar upon first glance.

Anyone else know the big differences between the two? Should I switch?
