Document Backup and Security

8 posts in this topic

Just wondering what other legal VAs are using to backup their work as well as ensuring their documents are safe with SSL encryption. As well, do you have mobile access to your documents. There are so many options out there (Dropbox, Google Docs. and I've just recently heard of Sugarsync which is suppose to be good but there is a fee). I am currently just using an external hard drive to back up my documents but this is time consuming and does not protect from a natural disaster. Thanks for your help!

Denise, I use Backblaze and also have an external drive. I really like Backblaze and the option to pay monthly, which is only $5. You can pay yearly and I think they might give you a discount. I have it on my desktop and now just added it to my Macbook, $5 per computer. It takes the original backup a few days and then after that it just constantly backs up all your files in the background. You can exclude certain folders on your computer if you wish as well.

Tawnya uses Carbonite and really likes it, it works the same way as Backblaze. I compared the two and decided to go with Backblaze.

I use Dropbox all the time just to exchange files between all my computers. I have files in my Dropbox that I often use so that I can access them from anywhere at any time since I travel a lot. I wish Dropbox would offer syncing folders that are on your computer, I always end up copying folders into dropbox cause I'm worried I might accidentally lose my folders that I have in dropbox.

Hi all, I posted the original question regarding what other VAs are using to backup their files. Thanks Tawnya and Danielle for your feedback. I would love to hear now a few years later if you still recommend the same products that you suggested or have you found something better.

As per my post above, I would also appreciate hearing from others on what they use for document backup. Has anyone used SugarSync?

HI Denise

I haven't used SugarSync but have been a user of Carbonite for several years with no issues at all. I also use Dropbox with several clients which seems to be improving over the past year and OneDrive for my own cloud storage which I prefer to Dropbox.

I don't know about SugarSync so I'll be following this thread. Speaking of which Denise if you do order SugarSync make sure you install eBates first as they give you a cash back of $7.50 when you order SugarSync. I love ebates as I'm always buying stuff online. If you signup through my affiliate link below I even get a $10 referral which you will get too when you refer people to it once you are signed up. I've not made a ton of money but have made some lipstick money ordering products online through my ebates ;)

I signed up to both as I'm always buying stuff in the states LOL
