Becoming a Virtual Assistant gave me, as a single mother, the financial securities to raise a family of three younger children on my own. I was able to stay home and see all the firsts of my children plus keep my watch on them too. It also taught my children to never give up when the going gets tough and keep plugging along since one day, you never know, you may just make it! Being a Virtual Assistant has improved my life by bringing me freedom, the freedom to do what I want, when I want to.

I am an African-American woman who received my first college degree (with Magna Cum Laude honors) at the age of 44 years old. I have not had any success in changing careers since receiving my bachelors. Now I am 53 years old. Not only do I face discriminations as being an African-American woman, now I am faced with age discrimination. Being able to be a Virtual Assistant has given me back control of my life. It doesn't matter what age, race, or sex a person is in order to be a Virtual Assistant. It has given me the ability to be a business owner, as well as rebuild my self-esteem. Not being able to obtain employment caused me to doubt myself. Being a Virtual Assistant has given me the ability to be a positive role model for my children and grandchildren. I believe if I'm successful as a small business owner, this will encourage them to reach for the stars. The ability to be a Virtual Assistant restored my hopes and dreams; therefore, improving my life.

I’ve always been one to enjoy any position that I’ve worked for in a company, but being a Virtual Assistant has given me the opportunity to do what I love to do, gain knowledge of other services I can provide, and meeting clients from all over the world. It also gives me the flexibility to be at home for my children and my grandchild, which is very important to me. I have gained valuable friendships from all over and, maybe some day, will be able to meet more of them in person.

Time Is Of The Es-Cents

In 2001 my son was seriously injured in an accident which left him permanently disabled. I was a single mother who worked outside the home at the time. Shortly thereafter, my job closed its doors for good. This left me feeling torn between wanting to stay home with my son who needed me, and finding a new job - which I needed to feed him. I bounced around jobs trying to find one that would allow me enough flexibility to give him the care he needed. When I took time off for him, my bosses thought I just didn’t want to work. I found Virtual Assistance after an online search for work-at-home. I honestly thought I was going to get a job, not start a business. But start a business is what I did. Becoming a virtual assistant has also allowed me to homeschool my daughter who has learning disabilities. Becoming a virtual assistant didn’t change my life. My son’s accident did that. Becoming a virtual assistant allowed me to change my children’s lives. Both are now Americorps service volunteers. They would not be on the path that they are today if I wasn’t there for them every day.

In choosing to operate a virtual enterprise, I am empowered to create real choices for myself, as an Internet marketing consultant, as a wife, and as a mother.

The virtual environment permits a kind of flexibility and autonomy that would not be possible if I ran a conventional brick and mortar operation. Clients never pay for face time or languorous lunch meetings. They only pay for value received. I operate from a place of authenticity and total passion for what I do, so every client enjoys premium service.

This is not to mention the incredible opportunities I have to work for and network with unique and interesting business people from all over the continent.

But best of all, there is never the sense of "I have to do this or I have to do that," only "I am consciously choosing each and every moment I experience." For me, operating virtually as an Internet entrepreneur is the most rewarding career choice I could have ever made. And I’ve never looked back.

Becoming a Virtual Assistant improved my life two ways. I never dreamt of making the money I am making now. Now that I am, I am starting to dream bigger. It has given me a backbone, confidence, and excitement of potential life possibilities.

Dear Oprah, As a 24 year old African American mother of 3 beautiful children, I found it difficult to properly raise my children, and meet the demands of a 9-5 job. I held several positions in inside sales, customer service and administrative fields, since I graduated high school at the age of 16. I have learned so much, and am always continuing my education to stay current in computer, marketing, and overall business trends. Since starting my business, I feel more independant, because I only accept projects that I feel I have the skills and experience needed to produce quality results. I am so much more excited about life, and my confidence is through the roof since I recently rented my first office space, in order to present a more professional style to my clients. I have more time for my children, and finding peace and spiritual enlightenment. I am finally on the road to success and prosperity, and it is because of the growth of Virtual Office Assistance. Peace and Blessings.

Becoming a Virtual Assistant has improved my life by allowing me to dream BIG and reach for the stars! Being a Virtual Assistant has also improved my life, because I can spend as much time as I want with my children. Since I adopted my kid's from Russia, I wanted my kid's to know that they finally have a family and a Mommy they can rely on at all times. Being a Virtual Assistant allows me to be their for them anytime they need me. And that is a true blessing!!

Being a Virtual Assistant gives me the opportunity to do what I love to do, work with fabulous clients, and make a great income ... while at the same time, providing the flexibility to schedule business and client work around my family and personal life. It's not a perfect balance (yet), and it takes dedication and persistence to maintain a successful business, but I don't dread going to work anymore ... my family is happy, I'm happy, and life is grand!

Setting aside the virtual assistant aspect for just a moment, the mere act of building a business from ground up gave me a personal growth experience I never realized or believed was within my potential. Having lost my mother at the onset of life due to complications during my birth and then losing my father a few years later with very few subsequent role models, my life path was grimly mapped in terms of self confidence, self esteem and self image issues. Luckily I was blessed with a curious mental fortitude. I have always enjoyed administrative support and its evolving need for enhanced skillsets such as writing, marketing, design and other proficiencies. The caveat of this chosen career path, however, is that of its corporate office structure ‘ceiling.’ When you’ve reached the CEO-support level, there are limited opportunities for advancement within the same realm. Virtual assistance has given me the opportunity to continue the work I revere. It has also given me the management experience that I’ve always desired and allowed me to remain in my chosen field---with the added bonus of bestowing me the gift of a new life force and spirit.

Not only did I get one of my first clients from VAnetworking.com, after three years in my business...I got another client from the RFP section just a month ago! This is a very valuable board for getting information from your peers and those who have "done it before" - but more importantly, you can get clients by being a member.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have joined sooner and participated even more in VANA than I did. The resources, access to RFPs, and the seminars are truly life-changing (and business changing!) Don't spend a bunch of money on some training program that has teachers that may or may not be any good. Tawnya's VBSS system, as well as her forum, have been proven time and time again to be all you need for true business success as a Virtual Assistant.
Jennifer Gniadecki - Atypical VA

“In the time I’ve been a member at VANA, my virtual assistant business has grown from having zero clients to a near full time practice. I attribute a large part of that success to having a place like VANA to come to for helpful, friendly advice, to find solutions to problems, to learn about new ideas and techniques, and to find talented virtual assistants who have helped me grow my business.”
