Ways a Teacher can use a VA

Recommended Posts

I'm donating VA time as a door prize for the district's Teacher of the Year Banquet. Can you help me make up a list of ways a teacher can use a VA to put in the envelope with my gift certificate and brochure? Here's what I've got so far...

  • PowerPoint Presentations
  • Newsletters
  • Type Course Syllabus
  • Create Class Calendar
  • Prepare Study Guide Material
  • Student Handouts

Hello,

Here are a few more ideas: (didn't know the teacher level so included several possibilities :whistlin: )

If an elementary teacher:

+ Research field trip destinations and fees

+ Type student name labels for classroom folders, cubbies, etc.

+ Create an Excel spreadsheet for inputting grades

+ Create forms and permission slips

+ Welcome letters to students and families for the upcoming new school year

+ Farewell letters to students moving up to the next grade at the end of the school year

If high school teachers:

+ Type labels for student folders

+ Create test forms

+ Create a master letter for student recommendations for employment, scholarships, or college entrance

If a college teacher:

+ Research website links for supplemental materials list for distribution

+ Create completion and achievement certificates

Any level teacher:

+ Type the teacher's resume for summer employment

+ Type student address mailing list for home mailings, Christmas cards, beginning of the year meet the teacher letters

You could offer to do Internet research to find free trustworthy sites that have practice student activities/games. Many generous and creative people have shared their ideas--it's just a matter of finding what will work for one's subject and grade level.

Don't forget you can offer more personalized services, such as:

Are they getting married, and need help addressing invites, or planning?

Upcoming family reunion they may be organizing/ planning?

Large home improvements, maybe they need suppliers/ contractors researched?

Are they planning a summer vacation, and need some help researching that?

Sherra, great ideas! I'd love once you are done with this article to let VAnetworking use it on our website in our Top 10 VA Series and in exchange, we will give you a month's worth of free advertising? Also anyone else who comes up with these Top 10's, please send to us okay? :)

I'd love to Tawnya! I've got a little time before I have to get this packet to the school district, but as soon as I'm done I'll do a version for VANA.

You do have to be careful. I work for the school district as an elementary school secretary and most of what was listed (field trip info., letters, labels) I do during the course of my day. So just be careful not to step on any union toes.

Hi

Excellent ideas. Also, I know some teachers do extra work with seminars and things and can use help promoting them. I do a little of that with a client.

Also, they often take extra classes for further education for themselves and you might want to mention that.

Great idea on how to get your name out.

Hi,

I work for a local private college and every professor needs to check for copyright issues on the papers that are turned in by the students. You may want to offer that as a service--it's a real big issue and the students think nothing of doing it.

We scramble and change quizzes and tests every term so you may be able to help them out there as well.

Also they are constantly receiving new text books for their review and if it's like our college we need to keep a database of those books. They are constantly contacting the book reps for books to review so you might be able to do that for them as well.

There are many and many ways, these guys can help save time. Infact, school authorities should provide VAs to staff. They can help in finding worksheets, preparing assessments, input data in spreadsheets, organize data, get info on required topics using internet and much.
