What's HOT? and in demand right now.

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow VA's,

As I start up my VA business, I am wondering what is high in demand from VA's right now? If I had to learn a new "thing" in order to be able to offer it to clients or to help other VA's in their businesses, what would it be? For example: Blogging, Desktop Publishing, Internet Research? What is it I should look to learn quickly in order to make money?

Anyone out there know?

Much appreciated as always.

Hello Helen,

While building your services around what you excel at is a definite way to go, I'd also explore learning more about the social networking scene. Knowing the ins and outs of such sites as Twitter, LinkedIn, and MySpace to name just a few could prove beneficial in assisting clients to gain some online presence. Learning how to set up and maintain profile pages along with maintaining a social presence is a new and upcoming trend that definitely has benefits and demands.

Thank you Maplewood,

This does sound interesting. Is Facebook one of those sites by any chance? Is there a way to learn this stuff for free without having to pay for a course? Living on a dime these days.

Thanks

Helen

Absolutely, Helen! Facebook is another one.

The best way to learn these is to jump right in and set up your own profiles. [No expenses.] It's great exposure for your own business while you learn how to set up and enhance your profile and network along the way. You'll gain firsthand knowledge and can guide your clients along the way or even maintain their social networking page on their behalf. So, no course needed, just try it.

If you Google the various Web 2.0 sites you may find some additional hints and tips about each respective site but you'll probably learn and retain more but jumping right in. VANA has some links on the various sites. I believe there is a MySpace thread right now that you could begin with.

Begin with one or two and learn about these sites then when you're ready move on to the others.

Hi Helene from Montreal - I am your Ottawa neighbour!!!

I feel that anything to do with Internet Marketing is HOT right now and will remain so for a long time...

You can specialize in blogging assistance, social media coordination, email marketing support, content creation, oh there are so, so many online avenues to explore.

I completely agree with Frances. Internet marketing is hot, hot , hot. My clients want custom html newsletter templates, podcasting, Adwords, autoresponder management, Wordpress blogs, social networking profile creation. The opportunities for qualified VAs are great!

My goodness thank you so much! Hello neighbor in Ottawa-Frances! I have seen that there is a lot of excitement right now about Internet Marketing but all the stuff you guys have mentioned as tasks, I know not how to do. I feel a little dumb but would like to learn except that I am looking for free lessons on how to do all the things you mention. Any free online courses on this stuff? I find it all so overwhelming. Maybe I CAN'T do this stuff and should stick to good old traditional admin. tasks. I don't know.

This stuff, especially social networking, is hot because it's a great way to save time for your clients. It is not hard to learn, as mentioned by a previous poster you just have to set up your own profiles on things like LinkedIn, MySpace, Twitter, Ecademy - etc. If you use them at all, you will learn what you need to offer it as a service for clients. There are no real courses, although you could easily google "how to social network" for some hints. Good luck.

Helen, you are probably feeling overwhelmed because you are new and not sure where to start.

You are in a good place here at VAnetworking to start learning.

If you are looking to fast track your way skills your best bet would be to find a paid training course that offers training in the skills you wish to learn.

Mind you, you can learn by trail and error and spend many hours doing research and figuring your own way around.

There are VAs out there who are training these exact skills who know the ropes inside and out.

You should spend some time doing a self skills evaluation. Look at the skills you have now, what you like doing, where the demand is heading, and then brainstorm around those elements. It may take some time but your niche will find you!

You could certainly start out offering the services you know and feel comfortable doing and build from there.

Good luck!
