Freelance Writers

Recommended Posts

Hi gang,

I have a colleague who is a freelance writer.

She is seeking advice on where to hook up with fellow writers for networking and writing gigs.

I have given her some info, but since that this area is not my specialty, I told her I would put it out to the VA networking community as well.

She is not presently a VA though she is interested in possibly using her writing skills in the VA vein, such as ghostwriting and copywriting.

Are there any writers around here who might be able to shed better light?

Thanks in advance!

Tracey

I know that in the metro Washington, DC area there is the Washington Writer's Guild--a very well known, prestigious community (and listed in the yellow pages). Here's a listing that gives different states, etc. http://www.bookmarket.com/writers.htm.

Good luck!

She might enjoy the copywritersboard.com

copyblogger.com is all writing.

Online, not the same as face to face, but both are enriching and keep me thinking along writing lines.

Does your friend Twitter? I've seen a lot out there - she just have to do a search on copywriting, freelancer and other similar keywords.

Most often than not, someone always responds to questions -- really cool community!

Hope this helps.

I love twitter for meeting fellow writers! It's a great place to connect with freelance writers, and talk about the writing world.

Is she interested in writing for the web? This is a HOT market right now and I don't see that changing any time soon. And there are lots of ways to gain skills in that area as well. Tell her to jump online and start networking. Good web copywriters are NOT a dime a dozen ;)

Thanks, Jocelyn & Denise - I will definitely suggest Twitter to her.

And Karri, I totally agree - this 'field' is what I have suggested that she get into - she is presently a journalist/feature writer, but she is now looking into this 'whole new world'.

I have absolutely inundated her with ideas & sites so hopefully she'll get online soon.

I love VANA - everyone is so helpful!

Thanks a bunch,

Tracey
