WordPress - Removing META on sidebar

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone:

I have been so blessed and busy lately that I have not been able to come in here and participate like I did in the past, though I have used the forum when looking for information. It looks like for some this economy has not dented their businesses, just like mine. If anything, more work than we can handle! :)

I can't find any postings with the following two questions. I hope some WordPress guru out there can help.

1. How do I remove the Meta directory from the side bar?

2. Once the Meta directory has been removed, how will I sign in to the control panel for the blog?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Naomi,

I'll assume you are using a template that is not the default one.

You will need to go into your sidebar.php file and delete the reference. (under "Appearance"- "Editor")

Should look something like this:

<h1><span>Meta</span></h1>

<ul>

<?php wp_register(); ?>

<li><?php wp_loginout(); ?></li>

<li><a href="http://validator.w3.org/check/referer" title="This page validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional">Valid <abbr title="eXtensible HyperText Markup Language">XHTML</abbr></a></li>

<li><a href="http://gmpg.org/xfn/"><abbr title="XHTML Friends Network">XFN</abbr></a></li>

<li><a href="http://wordpress.org/" title="Powered by WordPress, state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform.">WordPress</a></li>

<?php wp_meta(); ?>

</ul>

If you are using the default theme you'll need to go into "Appearance" -"Widgets" and remove the meta widget.

To sign in once you remove the Meta wdiget:

You will go to www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin

If your WP was installed into another directory like "blog" you go to www.yourdomain.com/blog/wp-admin

Let me know if you need any more help.

Christina

You are correct. Thanks so much for these instructions. I will try this out and if I have any problems, will let you know. :) I'll delete from the <h1> through the </ul> of the coding above.
