Need PC - MAC Remote Access

Recommended Posts

Hi! My client is a Mac - I'm a PC. (Why do I always see those guys on the commercial when I say that?) I need a program where I can access her computer AND print remotely to mine. She has LogMeIn but says it won't do the print.

Any suggestions?

Karen

Karen,

Unfortunately, Mac's and other Linux type OS's do not support RDP straight out of the box. And since they have been such a small % of total computers in the past, no one has really taken a look at making them "RDP compatible" until recently.

Here is the only solution I have been able to get working with any type of reasonable ease:

http://xrdp.sourceforge.net/

I've only used the Linux version of it, so I am afraid I cannot help you with installing it on your clients Mac.

Good luck!

It sounds like you need 2 things.

1. To access her Mac from your PC

2. Print to your PC from her Mac.

Macs and printing do not get along. I use a VNC to talk to my mac and for remote printing but the setup config its too complicated.

Are you sure it will not do the print? She should be able to login to your computer and do the print. I am pretty sure it works both ways. Just not on the same session. Mabye that is where the confusion comes in.

You could try this: use the logmein to access her Mac and then she can use Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2 to print to your printer. It is a little convoluted, but it should work. You may even be able to access her Mac, start the Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2 inside of hers; to access yours.

I have never tried that but, in theory, it should work. And it is all free. If you are willing to fork over some cash there are other ways.

Oh...RDP: Remote Desktop Protocol VNC: Virtual Network Computing
