when everyone set up their facebook page for the VA business, did you set it up differently than a personal one? Facebook states that you can't advertise on a personal site so I didn't know how to set up one for my VA business. I have one personally with no problems but don't want to be kicked off when I set up another one for my VA stuff. Any ideas?

Hi Deneen,

For a facebook fan page you should set it up with your business in mind. Use your branding, slogans, tag lines, logo, etc. There are many applications you can add in your page to help create a professional appearance. Link your blog so that entries auto populate to the page. Give complete contact information. Start some discussions, ie: what questions does your target market ask, tips or tricks, etc. Straight advertising or marketing is a 'no no' use social media 'rules' soft sale, give before your receive, all that good stuff :) Many of the VA here have facebook fan pages and are very good! Check them out for some ideas. You can take a look at mine here: http://www.facebook.com/premierevirtualoffice

If you have any question please let me know and I would be happy to help :)

Thanks. Do you go somewhere different to start a fan page or do you set it up exactly like a personal one?

It is different. When you are logged in, look to the bottom left within the bar. You will see a tab called Applications, click this once. Your next click will be on Ads and Pages. From here you will want to create a new page. Many choose to go with Brand, Product or Organization and then chose the correct option. Here is a screen shot of that page. The name you input here will be the name of your group :) Then you will have to set up the page. Once its ready hit publish :)

Erin has given you great advice. :yay: You can also access the page from this point http://www.facebook.com/advertising/?pages. There are step by step instructions.

Just to help you keep it clear... personal is called "profile" and you have "friends". Business is called " fan page" some call it " business page" or just "pages" and you have "fans". You may only have one profile but you may have as many pages as you want.

One thing to remember. You can not change the name once you create it so be sure it is what you want.

Facebook Static FBML application is a good one to use since it will allow you to create a box that you may put html in. Greatly increase your functionality.

Have fun !

Deneen,

Cindy clarified this very well with regards to the distinction between profile and fan page.

A page is always owned by a personal profile.

I have recently seen profiles set up under a business name, and fair warning to all (and I have seen it happen) they will close it.
