I just purchased this headset at Amazon. The Plantronics .Audio 655 USB Multimedia Headset

Pros:

  • Great Price and free shipping at Amazon
  • USB, no drivers or configuration needed
  • Crisp clear sound
  • Adjustable mic boom. A big ++ So you will not be blowing or popping the mic. Mic can be moved away completely.
  • 7 ft. cable
  • Volume control on left side of headphone
  • Adjustable headband
  • Good isolation
  • No buzzing, hum, or weird audio artifacts
  • Stereo. Can be used for music also. Good frequency response. Pretty good bass sound

Cons:

  • The headphones are a bit tight. But that is usually the trade off with good isolation
  • Can be fatiguing if worn for long periods of time, due to tightness
  • I found that the ear cushions did no quite fit my ears. If I tilt them a little forward, they fit in the ear cups.

Overall I really like the headphones. Good mic, good sound, great price. Basically my only complaint is that they are a bit tight for my head. (some would argue that is due to my ego) I can live with snug headphones is the sound and mic quality is very good which this is. And for $30 you cannot beat it. A small investment for a huge return.

I'd love to hear more reviews of other headsets/mics/speakers etc.

I would really love to see all members have a mic to communicate during our http://www.VAjot.com evenings. I know some have even bought half decent ones at Walmart for like $20 bucks!

So let's share our finds here and thanks!

I purchased an "everyman" from Skype for $29.88 and have had several problems with it. One section where it connects to the ear-piece has come separated and I have it taped together so that it will work. Sometimes the audio will work using the usb port and other times I need to remove the audio jack and plug it in directly to hear any music.

They also carry the same one that rocnred has but are charging $39.99 for it on sale.

I might have to check out the Plantronics one myself.

I love the headset. The two that Brent has recommended that I've bought have been wonderful. The first one (about 3 years ago) was a Logitech (can't remember anything other than that) and it was WONDERFUL!! However - my son decided to take the scissors to the cord. I bought one at WalMart after that, and after about 6 months, it fell apart - literally fell apart. I went to put it on one time and the mic fell off, the headset came apart and was hanging by the wires and I just threw it out. I ordered the one Brent referenced above, it was back-ordered, and Amazon cancelled my order for one reason or another. I ordered it again and it came in 3 days and I am thrilled about it.

My only complaint is that it can hurt after a while if you don't have the cushions completely centered on your ears. But as for sound-dampening, they're awesome. I can listen to really sensitive audio and pick up things I wouldn't have heard otherwise.

I like my Logitech headset even better today when I loosened the headband part and stopped squeezing my ears and brains. It's a winner.

Does anyone have any single ear or around-the-neck (not sure of the technical term) headsets they recommend? I really don't like having two ears covered and would like something that can also stream audio (for listening to music while working on client projects). Any ideas?

I've found this one -- http://amzn.to/mxKjW9. Anyone have any experience with this one or something similar?

I like using this style too. That way I can hear what's going on in the room ie) someone is talking about me j/k! hehehe

Brent, I'm going to pin this topic so people can find it easily.

I love my Logitech Wireless headset. The range is great everywhere in my house and outside. The only problem is that the sound doesn't conveniently switch from the headset to the computer speakers. Logitech told me it was a computer hardware problem but I'm not convinced. I spent approx. $85 at Best Buy so I am cognitively loving it. :-)

You can easily pick up a headphone set at your local Walmart, Futureshop, Best buy too. Usually they are around $15-30 and work fine for our webinars. I highly recommend you invest in one for future webinars.

I really recommend you buy a headset/mic to attend any of our FREE training webinars and our VAinsider Club training webinars to make the most of them. I've switched our format over to GoToWebinar now for our VAjots and training webinars which makes it more interactive for you. You can also always call in on a phone number provided as well.

I use Alesis Microphone and Alesis AHP1 Headset which I really love. I think when I bought it a year ago, it came as a set but I couldn't find the set anywhere. The microphone has superb quality and although the headset is a bit heavy on my head, the sound from it is spectacular!

I want these bluetooth wireless headphones (uses a USB tongle). For recording, I use my Blue Snowball mic, so don't want/need a built-in mic in the headphones. The fact that these headphones can be used to listen to movies on my laptop, or webinars, or whatever - love that they are wireless!

Hi Traci - did you purchase these, and if so, do you like them? Are they comfortable in the ear? I am considering a wireless one with the 'earmuff' style, however, I also have a new video camera, and think if I'm going to create any videos in the future, I might not want to be wearing the headphone style on video :)

I have a bluetooth USB adapter but it's from a couple years ago which I am assuming it will still be compatible. It's likely usb2.0.
