Setting up Bank Account

Recommended Posts

Hi:

I am starting my business shortly with the support of the Self Employment Benefit Program here in Ontario and wanted to know if the bank account should be set up right away or wait a while?

This next question is more for Canadian members - is there one bank that you have found is better with start-up businesses than others? I did some internet research but the big 5 banks all seemed to be the same.

Thanks for your help.

where are your personal accounts? If you already have a relationship with a bank for your personal accounts, just go to that one. That's what I did.

Hi Heather - I use TD for my biz banking and have been happy with them. I was able to get a TD Venture Line of Credit (Visa) with them as well without much hassle.

HTH,

Karri

PS: YES, definitely set up a SEPARATE bank account for your business. ALWAYS.

My personal bank account IS separate from my business account - just held at the same bank.

Are you able to use your own name if you don't yet have an official business name/entity?

Before I decided on a business name, I just set it up as "Dana Fortier Business Account". I changed it over 3 years ago to "Fortier Virtual", and once I finish my incorporation process, I'll change it once again to the corporation's name. They love me, thank goodness!

I found it easier to go to where my personal account is held because I have a relationship with them already. I was able to set up business checking, a line of credit and a savings account for the business.
