This is a Scam/Hoax

Recommended Posts

To all VAs who have their business listed on the VAnetworking directory.

I recently received the attached e-mail -please DO NOT click on any of the links in this *.pdf document!!!

It states that "I was referred to your site via VA Networking." At first glance I thought that this was a legitimate referral -which it is NOT. I then realized that they obtained my business name from the Directory associated with VAnetworking or from within the forum.

The major clue is "Need Mail Forwarding services from your VIRGINIA home/office." They then state "Your VIRGINIA home/office (physical address no p.o.)" No legitimate company is going to ask you to accept mail on their behalf and then have you mail it to them, they will use a mail services company that rents mailboxes to the public (or a PO Box).

I do not know "deb@debsprofessionalservices.com" and I believe that she may be a victim of this scam. I did check out her website and it is NOT "under construction" as this e-mail also states. [No, I did not click through any links in this e-mail.] The e-mail states "I have not been promoting my website, and it is under massive Reconstruction at the moment; ... [website link omitted] ... (but please excuse the mess)."

There is a disclaimer at the bottom of this e-mail "The information transmitted by the foregoing email is intended only for the addressee and may contain confidential and/or privileged material.... If you received this in error ... please contact the sender immediately -- (e-mail address link omitted)...." I believe that this is yet another way to get me to click on one of their links within the e-mail.

I have checked with a neighbor and friend, who also happens to be a law enforcement officer. When I mentioned the "Need mail forwarding services from your Virginia home/office" he immediately stated that this was a scam. He said to not click through any links or open any attachments. I assured him that I did neither and it's my practice not to unless I am confident that I know who the sender is, even then if it looks odd I will not until I have communicated with the sender.

I want to inform fellow VAs not to be taken in by this, especially with all the scams, hoaxes, malware, viruses, etc., that is out their trying to get you to give them your information.

Thank you, Linda. That is bizarre. I had an opinion going in because of your great explanation. When I got to the compensation amount, that would have been a no go for me.

Yes, it was bizarre; especially the compensation part. I felt that I needed to pass it along in case another VA had received something similar. It appears that people who want access to you and your information are coming up with more "innovative" (for lack of a better word) ways to get you to just click through the link in an e-mail.

Linda,

OMG! I received that same email last weekend! I am in Virginia too. I declined it, because it gave me a really creepy feeling. More importantly, a friend of mine paid a lot of money to a similar so-called LLC establishing company only to lose a lot of money.

Thanks for bringing this up.

Leisa
