Having your own clients is different than being an employee. You're the boss of you but it can feel like your clients are. What situations or clients make you want to run for the hills and how do you handle it?

My consultation process eliminates most of the "situations or clients [that] make you want to run for the hills". Granted it hasn't eliminated all of them, but currently I enjoy working with all of my clients. Since my clients knew what I expected from them and what I was to do for them up front, it made for an easier relationship. Also part of my business model is working with business owners that I like working with.

Well I have only one client and he is easy to work with. So far I have not experienced any problems. Hopefully this will continue with other prospective clients.

My biggest challenge in working with clients - is the clients. :P I say that tongue in cheek, with a measure of truth in that. I too vet all my clients and still - the occasional one slips through that is difficult to deal with.

But in all seriousness: the think the biggest issue I've really encountered was scope creep and/or the client not clearly understanding (or remembering ;) ) the things I don't do; and second to that is not giving enough lead time for the work they want done.

When any of the above happens, I simply email the client about it. That works! :)

My clients have never felt like they might be my boss. I've never let that occur. The mindset of client/service provider has always very much been the case for me.
