What Life Lesson Did You Learn the Hard Way?

Recommended Posts

Decided it would be fun to ask a non-business related question each week since we are always discussing business!

So here's the question...

What life lesson did you learn the hard way?

I'd probably say my life lesson that I learned the hard way was not to jump into a relationship and move across the country to a city that doesn't speak english. It was probably my most difficult time in life, I was unable to find work, I didn't know anyone, I was away from my family. I was basically starting from scratch, well I was, all I brought was a suitcase full of clothes.

But I will say, it taught me a lot and I had to grow up pretty fast right then and there. So I am glad I did it for the life experiences. But I probably shouldn't have done it that way. I should have had a plan. But I guess I am just spontaneous, but that isn't always a good thing.

I have too many life lessons that I'm still learning from. Let me think about one off the top of my head. How about not lending money to a friend as it took years for them to pay me back.

OH HERE'S A GOOD ONE: I went on a dating site about 10 years back and emailed back and forth a few times with some guy who sounded interested. We decided to meet at Starbucks for coffee to meet. I'm sitting there and this overly large woman sits down in the chair I was saving for him and I told her it was taken. She says, no its not I'm Alex. ACCCCCCCCCKKKK! I jumped out of my seat and raced off so embarassed. Lesson learned, even though profiles say they are men you might want to double check by a quick phone call first before you go meet them. One of my many online dating horror stories, maybe I should write a book LOLOL

That's cause it was a horrible and embarassing story which really requires a glass or wine to tell someone and the subject has never come up to tell anyone. LOLOL

But it always feels like family here at the network so thought I'd share ;)

PS: I'll keep you in the loop with my online dating forthwith 0x0x hehehe

LOL Candy! Glad I could make you laugh (but don't choke!)

And I agree, living and learning is hard to do (or watch someone else you love do) but seems to be the way the lessons stick with us isn't it? ;)

What life lesson did I learn (am still learning) the hard way: People, in a large group setting, can be petty and childish.

I keep expecting 30-40-50 year old people to act like they're 30-40-50 years old and not in their teens. It doesn't happen and I get disappointed in the human race every single day.

I'm in a similar situation except Canadians speak English (kind of). =P I left University in Kentucky to come here to marry my best friend. That part worked out fine, but getting used to my new "home" has been somewhat difficult. A hard lesson I have learned is that the world is not the united states. Things are different, people are different, and you have to learn to adapt to all new situations.

Most of the important lessons in life have been learned the hard way, but I think those are the ones that make the most lasting impression on you. They are the foundation you build on for a life of wisdom . haha
