1099/W9 or statement for new clients and taxes

Recommended Posts

I have a potential client, I have mostly every thing in place. But my Husband voiced a concern I thought I had researched enough. I have a contract for my clients to sign. But will they have to fill out a W9 as well so they can claim it as an expense, or can I simply send a statement at the end of the year? Does having a DBA make a difference at all in the case of filling a w9 vs not filling one and going with a statement?

Any info would be great.

Thank you for your time

You will send them a w-9 with YOUR TAX ID number so they can send you a statement (1099) at the end of the year on how much they paid you. If they pay you over $600 it is their responsibility to send you a 1099, not your responsibility to send them a statement. I recommend you file for an TIN with the government instead of providing your social security number.
