Hello,

I think in order to offer a specialize service you will need to know the basic, but when a client does come to you they may need more than the basic assistance, so I think it will be best to learn more than the basic to offer this as a service. Best wishes.

If you are going to be offering skills as a bookkeeper you will need a strong skillset in this area. Books are not something to manage for a client if you don't know what you are doing. You can get bookkeeping skills usually at your local colleges or there may be some courses online you could take too. A good bookkeeper knows the basics and is basically a date entry person. A GREAT bookkeeper knows how to fix problems, understand the various reports, SEE potential problems, and teach the client (in a kind a loving way :D) how to either do it right, or ask for help. I recommend taking a community college basic accounting course in order to understand the basics. Then, volunteer as a p-t bookkeeper somewhere (a non-profit, church, etc.) that already has a bookkeeper and see if you can learn more 'on-the-job' experience from them.
