Prospective Client Letter

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, sorry I have not posted in awhile but I have been extremely busy trying to get the final touches done to open my business.

I am writing to get other opinions on a salutation of a sales letter. I wish to include a letter in my marketing package to give out to prospective clients and I am not sure which is a better salutation. What do you use? Why?

This is a wonderful group and would love to hear all your feedback.

I'm sure others will have different opinions but here's mine...

I think it's always best if you can address it to a specific person. One of the things I do for my current clients is go through the mail. I can tell you that almost anything addressed generically gets round-filed right away. But, if you don't know who to address it to, my personal preference is something along the lines of "Greetings". I absolutely hate getting things addressed to "to whom it may concern" or "sir or madam". Those really get tossed.

If you can address it to an actual person then I often find using their first name makes it more personal. If I get a letter addressed to "Lanel" I'm more likely to read it rather than something addressed to "Miss Taylor" or "Ms. Taylor". And, if I get anything addressed to "Mrs. Taylor" it gets thrown out right away...I'm not married so they obviously don't know me so I don't spend the time reading what they have to say.

Just my thoughts...I'm sure others will have opinions and I'm sure others will differ from mine. smile.gif

On top of what Lanel has said, I'd also add, get the name right! I had a letter this morning from someone I've done a show with in the past, and they not only mis-spelt my surname, they also got the name of my business wrong. Since they've done both of these before, and I've pointed it out to them, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence!
