I am to the point of total frustration! I too have spent about 3 hours today trying to research this to no avail. A brand new client, just signed, sent me this info for review and I hate to go back and say, "I can't...". Especially when I am supposed to be the solution provider.

This group is great...please help!

Becki,

What's the time frame to get back to your client with the solution?? Right away I suppose??

If not tonight, I'm sure someone will have the answer for you soon!

I'm gonna do a bit more checking on the net before I go to bed, if I find anything, I'll be sure to post!! ;)

Hi Becki:

It has been a busy day. :) The problem I see here is that you are trying to open a MAC based document on a PC. Everything I have read so far is for the MAC user to save the ClarisWorks as a Word document. Otherwise, you will have to have a conversion software to be able to read the files. This is the software I found recommended on several sites.

Conversion Plus

Thanks for all of your help! I didn't want to spend the money (I'm cheap :D maybe frugal is a better term) on file conversion software, but I have done just that and it works great! I purchased Conversion Plus. Again, I was hoping that there would be a cheaper way around.

Again, you guys are great!

Big round of applause :yay: for all of your assistance!

Becki,

Here's a couple answers I got from a computer forum! HTH!!!

I'm not into Apple computers but I suspect that one can go "File", "Save As" and select Word as a choice. If not, surely you can save a .cwk file as a text file and then open the text file with Word. Also, you might review the website at:

http://intergate.cvesd.k12.ca.us/eastlake/...rs/advanced.htm

for more suggestions. If that does not work, try asking your question with an Apple Works User Group at:

http://www.awug.org/

Word does not directly support the conversion of ClarisWorks files. However, you can save them in ClarisWorks into Word format. Please see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;139793 for detailed info regarding the best way to handle ClarisWorks to Word conversions.

You could have saved it from ClarisWorks in any of a variety of formats,

including various versions of WordPerfect and MS Word. You could try to resave the Clarisworks file to an RTF or DOC format perhaps? It would only take you a few minutes to open the file, then do Save As (selected file type). Then choose the format you want to save it as. If you have ClarisWorks you can save to a format that Word can use (RTF if available), or you can use AppleWorks or one of the 3rd party converters such as http://www.dataviz.com.

Guess what I just found out...

Another message board posted the following msg to my SOS:

"I have some files that were originally created in

Claris Works. I just open them up and convert them

to Word. Some of them do pose problems, though.

To resolve these, I simply opened the relevant

documents up in Word using the "Recover text from

any file" option.

There might be a bit of gobbledygook, but all the

text should be there"

Wouldn't you know my luck?!?! IT WORKED!!!!!

I would love to hear, "Sure I'll give you a refund!"

:damnputer:

Glad it worked out for you. I do have a MAC here to convert files on occasion and may have been able to convert it but you figured it out before I got to the forum today....thanks to everyone's valuable help once again!

Tawnya :yay:
