Welcome to VANA Patty :)

I started out marketing myself as a virtual assistant and then things just kind of morphed into Internet marketing (consulting, writing, etc etc). So I no longer call myself a VA. However, I still consider myself a part of this community because it has given me sooooooooooooooooo much! I love contributing, helping and yes, still learning from other business professionals. VAs are some of the most innovative and interesting people you'll ever meet.

Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Cheers,

Karri

I'm currently reading Jim Edwards' book on article writing. Has anyone read this?

I'd love to know if everyone has been working on taking passive verbs out of their articles and, if so, have you noticed a difference?

Hey Jenny - you might want to read Jakob Nielsen's article about passive vs active voice. It's not specifically about articles but it IS really interesting!

I am a Internet Marketer who decided to venture out into the Va specialty. I was in government and private industry in all admin positions, from the top to the bottom. I have been active on the Internet for 10 years. Started by selling ads on the net, moved to selling websites, then I started to create websites, moved into Internet Marketing fulling time in 2002.

I have been mentored by the best marketers out there and SEO specialist. This is my niche. Any one who needs help, let me know. I am a mentor.

I check for passive content and reading level on all articles, with the goal being to get them in the 7-8 bracket. I swing around 8.5 to 9.8 and that seems to work.

Also, remove as many adverbs as possible!

I guess it is working; I'm hired and ezinearticles has been adding them.

Hi Judy.

This question may have been asked someplace before, but how do you determine reading level?

Thanks.

Angi.

Well, reading level according to Microsoft/Flesch-Kincaid, not God, but close...you know....it does give us some idea. Like grammar, there could be some room for discussion.

In WORD, the reading level is linked to spellcheck. I think you have to have it set in your default choices to show up right after ending the spellcheck. In WORD 2007, it is in the Word Options at the bottom of the MS logo ribbon. The 'real term' is readability statistics. There are two figures grade level and percentage, aimed at the supposition that this is written at grade level or age level?

For Open Office, you have to find a readability tool online and use it outside of the program.
