  1. Thanks, everyone. I've lost the weight by joining Slimming World, which is relatively new in the USA, but has been around in the UK for many years. Last year they changed the plan and it makes far more sense than the old plans they did. Basically there are certain foods which are "free" and you eat literally as much as you like (e.g. lean meat (including bacon!), fruit, veg, potatoes, rice, pasta, couscous). There are some foods (like milk and cheese, and cereal and bread) that you have limited quantities of and are called "healthy extras" - e.g. 1oz porridge. Then there are foods that are classed as treats. The only things you count and weigh are the healthy extras and the treats - the rest you eat to your hearts content. My group leader's favourite saying is "If you're hungry you're not doing it properly" and the consultant anaesthetist I work for (and who is responsible for shocking me into losing weight) often questions the amount I eat and is shocked that I start the day with a bowl of porridge and a full English breakfast (obviously not fried).
  2. I've had two exciting things happen this week and I'm so excited I had to share: 1. I've had an article published in the journal of the British Society of Medical Secretaries and Adminsitrators and 2. Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of embarking on a longterm weight loss plan and joining Slimming World. When I weighed in I had lost 4 stone which is 56 pounds or 25.5kg.
  3. I would much prefer an error to be pointed out to me so that I could rectify it. As others said, don't allow the negative response to put you down.
  4. I can't help you with your problem, but when I had problems with ExpressScribe some time ago, I posted on their user forum and got help there. Regards Lynn
  5. It might be worth looking at Kashflow, which is based in the UK but can be set to dollars, in addition to other currencies. They give you a 60-day trial and do not ask for any payment details until the trial comes to an end so you have plenty of opportunity to work out whether or not it works for you.
  6. Thanks, Patty and Judy. Wow, the look of the forum as changed a lot in the last two years. Patty - life's good - I love my part-time job as a medical secretary in the NHS and have just completed a formal medical secretary qualification, which is very useful. I had a scare last September when the consultant anaesthetist I work for used me as a guinea pig on his new cardio-pulmonary exercise (CPX) testing kit and discovered I had a heart problem, although I had no symptoms. It seriously scared me and three weeks later I joined a slimming club (Slimming World) - I'm now over half way to my target and am now lighter than I was on my wedding day nearly 12 years ago. After I lost 28lb I was restested on the CPX and was delighted that my heart problem had disappeared completely. I'm still focused and working towards a healthy weight for the first time in my adult life. David is growing up in so many ways and his aunt and uncle took him to DisneyWorld a few months ago - he's travelled further than I have! Life is busy but I'm looking forward to returning to being a VA. Regards Lynn
  7. Your Name: Lynn Cox Your Website URL (if applicable): www.coxvpa.co.uk, although it isn't up yet. Description of your Business, including any specialties: I used to be a VA and after a couple of years back in part-time employment as a Medical Secretary I am preparing to relaunch Cox Virtual PA Solutions part-time. I will specialise in audio transcription, especially medical transcription, and document formatting. On a more personal note: What City/Town/State/Country are you from?: Peterborough, UK Are you married? How long?: Married to Michael for nearly 12 years Any kids and how old? One son, David, now 7 years old. Hobbies & Interests: I'm a bit of a techy and love Facebook. Having deliberately lost nearly 50lbs since last October (and still going) I have discovered a love of cycling, which I do with the boys (my husband and son). I love reading when I get the chance, which isn't often! I have a bit of a "studying bug" at the moment and having recently successfully completed a Certificate in Medical Secretarial Studies I am looking for my next learning opportunity.
