Hello all, My name is Lisa McFarlane, although I joined this group a while ago, I have been busy leaving the corporate world after 15 years and relocating my family from British Columbia to a small town on the Southern Shore of Nova Scotia (much closer to our families in Newfoundland ). Now I am setting up a new VA business. I'm struggling with coming up with a name, and find it is delaying my getting going. After some brainstorming over the past few days, I came up with 'Balance Business Solutions'. I would love to hear feedback - both good and bad... My background is finance / commercial mortgages / real estate, so I plan to target commercial mortgage brokers, private lenders, and small real estate developers. In addition to some admin, I would offer financial modelling, analysis, market research, loan presentations, proposals, etc. I'm married with 3 children ages 7, 5, and 2. We moved to Nova Scotia to be closer to family, and for a slower pace of life and to spend more time together as a family. The challenge right now however is learning to carve out the time to work each day when the playroom is right outside the office and little ones are calling. I'm looking forward to connecting with others and sharing the journey! Lisa
  2. Welcome Mary Jo! I'm in the process of starting my VA business right now. Great website - I love the colours and the clean look. Interested to read your background, I also have a degree in finance and have spent the last 15 years working in commercial banking / real estate, and most recently with a commercial mortgage broker. I'm planning on targeting private lenders / commercial brokers / and small real estate developers to assist with financial analysis and support. Look forward to connecting!
  3. Hi everyone, I am in the process of starting up a new VA practice after 15 years in the corporate world as a commercial mortgage underwriter. My focus would be: Excel spreadsheets, charts, and graphs Creation of income proformas, financial modelling Preparation of construction budgets, cash flows Review and analysis of project economics Market research Preparation of loan presentations for lenders Report and proposal generation I would love to hear from anyone who has worked with brokers, real estate developers, or small private lenders. In my experience on the one hand I think there is good opportunity, but on the flip side it is an industry that is pretty old school. Looking for ways to break into it. Thanks!
