  1. I was just listening to the news about companies offering trials on their products. It was talking about how some companies make it hard for you to stop subscribing from their products after the trial is over. The Federal Trade Center gives you tips on doing your research and checking out the company before deciding to do the trial because you don't want to find yourself still paying for a product you don't like or don't want after the trial is over. Doing the trial in software is the only way to determine if it's what will be needed in business, and we all should be more aware of what we may be getting into when we decide to try out these trials. 2. Thank you ladies, these posts gives me more insight into Paypal and also to be aware of some of the scams out there.
  3. What might also work in your favor is to ask the dentist for a recommendation and put it on your website. Word of mouth is good, but sometimes seeing the recommendation with their own eyes, could even be better for you and your business.
  4. You can also check the Small Business Association website too for information. That's where I found information for my state.
  5. About 6 or 7 months ago the same happened to me with an old yahoo account I had. Yahoo had sent to me an alert and when I checked on it, it was from 3 different countries in Europe at 3 different times. I knew it wasn't me cause I've never even visit any of those places (if I can't travel by car somewhere, then I don't travel). I closed that account and went without email for awhile. When you have family that wants to share their "pride and joy" pictures of kids and grand kids, email is how they send it so needless to say I got another email through Yahoo. They still send me alerts, but this time they also include the IP address to make sure it's mine and that I haven't been hacked again. So, I'm just letting you know it can happen with any email account, not just gmail. Karen
  6. I agree. It is so wonderful knowing there are other business owners that are just as eager and supported in helping you get your business started in the right direction as they have done with their businesses. Knowing I can come to this forum anytime I have a question or when I have a problem, helps with the stress levels of starting a new business.
  7. Hi, I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, if not, please let me know so I may post it in the right place. I've been thinking about having one day a week to do things like checking email I've might have fallen behind with, marketing my business, checking my inventory, doing other things for my business. For instance: Mondays to do marketing and stuff for my business or like I said, "fallen behind" email, emailing new clients with the consultation time & date I would call them, and also setting any projects to manage my time better for the week. I know I won't be doing this until I start getting a lot of clients, but it is an idea that I've had going through my mind. So, I wanted to post it and get your feedback on whether or not this would be a good idea. Thank you, Karen
  8. Honestly, I think a CPA is better than tax software. My CPA is self-employed herself and from what I understand, unless you know what you are doing, it's real easy to make mistakes that could end up costing you a lot more in the long run. Donna, my CPA, told me with the so many changes in the tax laws every year, the tax software doesn't necessary cover all the information or even last minute changes, where as a CPA would know more including the last minute changes. Since my CPA is family and is self-employed, she has helped me with several questions to starting up my own business.
  9. Hello, Everyone! My name is Karen Wilkinson, I'm from Jackson, LA (just a small town 30 miles north of Baton Rouge) in the USA. I first heard about VA Networking while doing a Google search of just what a virtual assistant was. I'm 43, 2 sons (17 and 13), and my favorite hobby is reading (anything). I don't have a website nor have I really started my business yet because I'm still doing research on being a virtual assistant, still trying to figure out my niche, and still learning as much as I can before taking that big step. I can say just the few times I've searched through this forum looking and finding the answers to my unspoken questions, I've noticed how wonderfully supported everyone is of each other, which is the one of the main reasons why I decided to join. I look forward to interacting with you all. Thank you, Karen
