  1. I use both the free versions of LogMeIn and DropBox and am very happy with both. I use LogMeIn for the remote access and have actually been able to provide tech support to several clients who are not as "computer savvy" using the free version. I typically keep my DropBox account for files that I access frequently and need to get to from several computers.
  2. I like DocuDesk.com. I use their free DeskPDF product, but there is also a Pro version that you can purchase. Kathy Worthington VirtualAnswers.net ~Big Business Results on a Small Business Budget
  3. I tried it and couldn't figure out where my much-loved VA toolbar fit in. I understand the browsing bit and am happy with all that, but I need my toolbars! What am I doing wrong? Kathy W. www.VirtualAnswers.net
  4. Valerie, Thanks for posting this question. The answers and help have been AWESOME! I have learned so much from this post! I trust your presentation went well. I realized that I need to have an "elevator speech" when someone noticed the business card I posted at a local coffee shop and asked me what I do. Auuugh! I don't even remember what I said, but the reality hit me then that I need to pull this together! So again, thank to all those who gave great advice and thanks to Valerie for posting this question! 5. So sorry! I know that I don't have a signature line, but didn't realize that we (as regulars) were not allowed to create one with a link when we post. My apologies. Is it okay to list the web address, as below? (no link) Kathy Worthington
  6. Isn't technology wonderful?...when it works!! I updated to FF3 and ruined everything. I had to go back to IE while I completely got rid of FF3 and went back to FF2. I've not heard good things about FF3, so I'm sticking with what works! Kathy Worthington www.VirtualAnswers.net ~Big Business Results on a Small Business Budget

  8. Amy, I give a discounted rate if I've designed the site, but usually charge a monthly retainer for the estimated time. My sites only require periodic updates, so 2.5 hours a month is plenty. My fee is simply my hourly rate, which is comparatively low at $20/hr. I'm working on gradually raising it! Hope this helps! 9. can you define "edgy" any further? I've got a TON of fonts and might be able to offer some suggestions. Do they want modern? crisp? etc Kathy Worthington Virtual Answers ~Big Business Results on a Small Business Budget
  10. I also agree with Patty on your rates. I'd love to make that kind of money, but have just gotten the nerve to raise my rates to $20/hr! Your site looks really nice, but is there any way you can make the link bar at the top continuously accessible? Each time I clicked on a link from a different page, I had to re-activate the graphic first before it would work. A little CSS maybe? Also, you should look into getting a business email address instead of an earthlink one. It just looks more professional. Nice layout and graphics! Best of luck! ---------- Kathy Worthington Virtual Answers ~Big Business Results on a Small Business Budget
  11. Kirstie, You can try going to the Intuit QuickBooks site and downloading the FREE Simple Start version and see if that works for you. It is possible to buy Pro or Premier online and download it, not having to wait for a disk. Yes, the portable file is the QBM file, but you mentioned that the error message said it might be corrupted. I checked the 'net and found that the QWA file is from an accountants program, as compared to a QBB (backup file) or QBW (regular file). Don't know how that fits into your scenario. Depending on HER version, she should go to FILE, PORTABLE COMPANY FILE, CREATE FILE... and follow the directions to create another QBM file for you if the first one is messed up. You can determine your version of QuickBooks by pressing F2 on your keyboard. Kathy W Virtual Answers kworthington@VirtualAnswers.net ~Big Business Results on a Small Business Budget
  12. Kirstie, Your client SHOULD be able to make you a Portable Company File the same way you tried to open hers, only by choosing CREATE FILE instead of OPEN FILE. You can have her create a report of all the billing files, but it would involve more work on her part than this option. Could you have her retry making the Portable Company File again? Give her specific instructions, if necessary. Is it possible she using another version of QuickBooks that your program won't open? (I wouldn't think that would be the case, but you never know with technology!) Is your version Basic, Pro, or Premier? (Just wondering, if you don't mind!) Kathy W.
  13. Kirstie, Check your other post for my post! Kathy W. VirtualAnswers kworthington@VirtualAnswers.net ~Big Business Results on a Small Business Budget
  14. Kirstie, You should be able to open the .QBM file. Go to FILE, PORTABLE COMPANY FILE, OPEN FILE. Then choose the appropriate .QBM file to open. I'm not sure if you've already tried this or not, but you can't just open it like normal. If all your client needs is a report modified, she can export it as a .CSV file that you should be able to open with Excel or Timeslips. But you can't send her the info back that way. That's for reports only and can't be imported back into QuickBooks. Also, if you're willing to put in the time quickly, there is an awesome FREE training program I just completed for QuickBooks. The problem is that it ends midnight on Sunday, the 17th! Even if you can't get the testing in by then, you can pick up a lot of pointers by using the info! http://www.tryqb.com/startlearning Hope this helps! Kathy W.
