  1. Hello Everyone, I am re-introducing myself to the VA world here on VANetworking.com. I recently re-joined as a VAInsider. I've been in business since 2004 providing executive management and administrative services. I have been blessed with many years of success! As part of my business strategy this year, I am looking to connect, network and build on what I have already experienced to take my business to a new level.
  2. Hi Everyone, I am helping my husband send some documents in response to employment opportunities. I have two PDF documents that are over 1MB each. The recipient of these documents requires the document be less than 1MB. They will not accept the documents as a zip file so that is out of the question! I have tried to convert to JPEG thinking that would reduce the size. Wrong! Does anybody have suggestions on how I can reduce the PDF size to less than 1MB? We are totally stumped at this point. I am open to all suggestions. Thanks, Marit
  3. I think volunteer work is a great opportunity to get known. I have done volunteer work since I started my VA business in 2004. It actually landed me a very lucrative monthly retainer with the local chapter of a well-known women's business association. I now work about 30-40 hours a month for this association as their chapter manager. I started with this association serving on the board as the secretary. It was two years before I was encouraged to submit a bid to the chapter in response to an RFP the chapter sent out. What was nice about the situation is that people on the board knew me and knew what I could do for them. I do want to offer a word of caution about volunteer work: Don't volunteer so much of your billable skills and time that you end up doing more volunteer work than billable work. I offer this to you from my own experience. I learned a very valuable lesson. I have reduced my volunteer activities because I discovered I was doing exactly what I caution you about. Marit
  4. Hi Marie, Congratulations! I applaud you on your diligence to reach your goals! It sounds like you are on the right track and you will be getting your first client very quickly. In fact, I was very inspired. When I started five years ago, I did not have a plan. In fact, I didn't even know that people actually got paid for doing VA work. I have learned a lot since that time. I celebrate with you! You go girl! Marit
  5. Hi Fellow VAnetworkers, I am surprised and humbled! All I could say when I received the notice is "WOW! How cool is that?" Thank you all for the kudos, votes and general support. It is really neat to have a fabulous group! Marit Fox
  6. Thank you for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. Marit
  7. Hello VANA friends, I just acquired a research project for a client. My client is a fitness trainer who has several trainers on payroll. Each trainer goes to the client's home. My client needs some kind of software that can track her employees time, schedule her trainers with her clients, produce payroll, and invoice her clients for the training services. She wants all of this in a combination package as well as have parts of it accessible to her employees. To add to the mix, the software my client needs must be compatible with a Mac as well as integrate with PC platforms. I would appreciate any referrals to research. I know I can Google but because she wants so much in an all inclusive package, I am not sure if Google is the way to begin the research. I thought I'd ask my colleagues. Thank you so much. Warm regards, Marit Fox Abundant Administrative Services
  8. My name is Marit Fox and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I live in Santa Clara which is about 40 miles south of San Francisco. I am new to VANA and just read your post about finding other VAs in this area. I thought I would jump in and introduce myself to you all. Warm regards, Marit Abundant Administrative Services
  9. Hello Community, I have a mailing list in Word 03 that needs to be converted into an Excel 03 spreadsheet. The list in Word looks like the following: Jane Doe 1223 First St. City, ST 90000 John Smith 1111 First St City, ST 90000 Mary Smith 2222 First St City, ST 90000 The list has about 50 entries shown above. I need to convert the list above into an Excel 03 spreadsheet so it is in column format listed under the following column headings in Excel: First Name/Last Name/Address/City/State/Zip How can I do this globally for the entire list? I want to accomplish this with as little manual manipulation as possible. I believe there is a find/replace feature in Word that can be used. I need to know the step by step process. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marit
  10. Hello Everyone, My name is Marit Fox and I just joined VANA. It looks like a wonderful community. I live in the San Francisco Bay area known as Silicon Valley. I established my business as a home-based secretarial service in November, 2004. I served clients as an independent contractor working in their offices. Last year, I decided to become virtual. I feel I am in the primary school phase. I have had some training in working virtually. I am looking forward to expanding my marketing and developing my niche. I still need to identify my target audience. I am looking forward to getting to know many of you in this community. Warm regards, Marit Abundant Administrative Services
