  1. Hi everyone: I have a client I will be helping with WordPress sites for her clients. It's been a while since I have done much actual web design work and thought I would get your feedback on which of these theme frameworks you like the best. DIY Thesis 2.0 or Genesis I know HTML and CSS pretty well. PHP, I don't know and usually have to research the code I need if I want to change one little thing. I'm interested in knowing which you like the best. Which needs the least amount of coding work, and which you pretty much don't have to touch the PHP, except for maybe once (okay, maybe twice). Thanks for your help!
  2. Hi everyone: If you run a membership site for yourself or for a client, I would appreciate it if you could take a minute to complete a short five-question survey. I am trying to help a client decide which would be best. This would be the first time I have set up a membership site, so your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZSFWG87 With all my best, Naomi Skarzinski http://www.topshelfva.com
  3. Hello everyone: My client received notice that 1ShoppingCart rates will be going up by 30% as of May 1st to $129 a month. This is more than she is wanting to pay. Obviously, that puts Infusionsoft out of the picture, since they are far more expensive (and more complicated for her business at this point). I tried to find other suggestions for shopping carts on the forum; however, everything seems to be geared to 1SC or Infusionsoft questions. Does anyone have any suggestions for a shopping cart system that will do everything that 1SC will do including autoresponders, broadcasts, products, recurring orders, affiliate program, etc.? Thanks in advance for your help!
  4. Hello everyone: I have a two fold question: Other than PR Web, what other press release sites would you recommend? Also, I haven't written a press release in years. I have a client inquiring and I would like to know if you have any recommendations of an individual who this is all she/he does, or this is her/his area of expertise. Any help would be appreciated. With all my best, Naomi http://www.topshelfva.com
  5. Hello everyone: It has been quite awhile since I have been here. It's a whole new scene. I am going to have to take a weekend to explore. I wanted to let everyone know about a fabulous 5-day telesummit one of my clients is hold starting on April 19th. If you are a breast cancer survivor or you know someone who is, then please check out this telesummit. There are going to be ten fabulous speakers discussing how to go from surviving breast cancer to thriving in your life. http://yourlifeafterbreastcancer.com/blog/surviving-to-thriving-telesummit/ Thanks!
  6. My client would like to move her e-zine from 1ShoppingCart to either Constant Contact or iContact. We have not been having great deliverability with 1ShoppingCart lately (or at least their reporting system is not great). I've set up this poll to see what everyone likes the best, Constant Contact or iContact. Both services will allow us to move the list over without forcing all the subscribers to resubscribe. We are leaning heavily to these two services; however, if you have another service you love, which will allow us to move subscribers over without having to make them re-opt-in, then we are all ears! Thanks for your help!
  7. Hello everyone: My client, Rochelle Togo-Figa, just had a movie made for her upcoming Inner Game of Sales Workshop by Doron Ben-Ami. This is extremely different than what is normally out there...you know, those standard slide show movies with text written over each slide. I was blown away with the quality of the production of this movie. There is actual motion picture/video interspersed with the still images, the music was specifically written for this movie alone (no worries about royalty infringement here!), Rochelle's voice over is included in the movie, etc. You can see the video here as a sample of Doron's work. http://www.salesbreakthroughs.com/workshops/igs_event.htm Do your clients have a workshop they want to promote, a major product to promote, do they want to develop an inspirational movie to promote their services...? I want to highly recommend the services of: Doron Ben-Ami (203)740-7463 dbenami@earthlink.net http://www.doronbenami.com PS: Rochelle said he is a joy to work with and really got what she was looking for!
  8. You are correct. Thanks so much for these instructions. I will try this out and if I have any problems, will let you know. I'll delete from the <h1> through the </ul> of the coding above.
  9. Hi everyone: I have been so blessed and busy lately that I have not been able to come in here and participate like I did in the past, though I have used the forum when looking for information. It looks like for some this economy has not dented their businesses, just like mine. If anything, more work than we can handle! I can't find any postings with the following two questions. I hope some WordPress guru out there can help. 1. How do I remove the Meta directory from the side bar? 2. Once the Meta directory has been removed, how will I sign in to the control panel for the blog? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
  10. I only work on a retainer basis, though most clients go over their retainer hours. Payment is due by the 10th of the month. I send out a "friendly reminder" on the 8th of the month to those clients who have not paid as of yet (usually only one or two). Then, very rarely, if someone has not paid by the 10th, I send out a reminder on the 10th. All my clients know that I stop all work if payment is not received by the 10th, there will be a $20 "rebilling" fee, plus 1.5% late fee. I've been in business for five years and only had one client that was late on a payment, and that was only because she knew I was letting her go. I think she paid me by the 15th. Retainer really is the way to go. Most of my clients have been with me 3-5 years.
  11. Hey all, it is just around the corner and my dear friend, Lena Claxton, is having her new book, "How to Say It: Marketing with New Media: A Guide to Promoting Your Small Business Using Websites, E-zines, Blogs, and Podcasts," published by Prentice Hall Press, launch September 2, 2008. I am so excited for her. Queens University, here in Charlotte, NC, is doing a big book launch party for her. She has invited me to attend. I've never been to a book launch/signing/party, so it will be interesting. She is one sharp cookie and marketing savvy. I had the opportunity to read the first draft of the book, so I can't wait to see the final publication. She and her co-author, Alison Woo, have done extensive work and the pre-reviews they are getting are highly enthusiastic. I just had to share with you all. :-) http://www.newmediamavensblog.com/
  12. I use TimeSlice on everything I do and bill my clients for all time on the phone, e-mails, working, etc. If you were in a corporate office you would be paid for your time. Your corporate office is your home office, no reason you should not be paid for your time. My contract states, "I bill for time spent in communication with you, verbally or electronically (phone, e-mail, faxing, et. al.), and for time I am working on your tasks or conducting business on your behalf. My clients each receive an extremely detailed report, along with their invoice, at the end of each month. Most of my clients have been with me three to almost five years and this has never been a problem.
  13. Patty: Have you had any feedback on this yet? http://www.sync2.com/ Also, has anyone ever used this? http://www.syncing.net/index.php?id=11&L=1
  14. Anthony: You are correct, it does not show up in websites. It also is just a placeholder. The minute I start typing, it disappears. Judy: I couldn't say between Expression 2 and the first version. I waited to start exploring when I got the Expression 2. It looks all the same, except for a few wonderful things, such as the capability to work with PHP pages on your hard drive, etc.
  15. Julie, who is your merchant account provider? I am rethinking this because seeing Authorize.net's rates, it will be quite a bit more than what I am paying PayPal. I know I will have to pay more; however, I don't want to have to end up paying much higher. Tawnya, I'll check out your company's rates.
